During the first session with Mark, a c-suite leader of a medium size business, we set spent some time considering what Mark wanted to get out of his 6 week coaching programme with me. We talked generally about how things were going with the business, his strategy, his people and outcomes. One we had defined some areas of focus, we clarified specific goals he wanted to achieve. They were, 1. growth of the business 2. Mark's confidence as a leader and 3. whether he had the right people in the right roles to support him.
Over a period of 6 months, with roughly one session per month and a couple of extra calls, Mark and I worked though each of his goals in turn. Sometimes goals and actions crossed over, but generally we worked through each individual goal until it was resolved or the actions were in place to resolve it. Through the series of discussions, it was my challenge as a coach to ask the right questions, offer a devil's advocate position, put forward helpful models to frame Mark's thinking and essentially move Mark through various options to solid actions that would move his goals to resolution.
